Softswitch, menjadi salah satu bagian dari NGN yang sangat penting, karena menjadi pusat pertukaran informasi dari berbagai macam protokol. Berikut contohArsitektur Softswitch yang direkomendasiikan oleh ISC (International Softswitch Consortium).
1. Transport Plane
- Responsible transport of message
- Provides access for signaling and media with external networks, or terminal to VoIP Networks
- Transport plane is further devided into three domins : IP Transport ; Interworking; Non-IP Access
2. Call Control and Signaling Plane
- Controls the major elements of the VoIP network
- Carry out call control based on signaling messages received from transport plane.
- Consists devices like : MGC, Gatekeepers, and LDAP servers.
3. Service and Application Plane
- Provides the control, logic and execution of one or more services or applications in VoIP network
- Control the flow of a call based on the service execution logic
- Service and App Plane consists of devices like : Application Server and Feature Server
4. Management Plane
- Subscriber and service provisioning
- Operational Support
- Billing
- Other network management tasks are handled.
